After his retirement from practice in 1987, as president of the Masserman Foundation for International Accords, Dr. Masserman devoted his efforts to coordinating and supporting the activities of distinguished colleagues and friends throughout the world in programs designed to promote international peace and advance human welfare. Dr.

Masserman was trained in history, literature, biology, music and medicine at Wayne State University, neurology at Stanford, psychiatry at Johns Hopkins, and in psychoanalysis at the Chicago Institute. Among his many other honors, Dr. Masserman received the Sigmund Freud Award in Psychoanalysis and the prestigious Albert Lasker Award for "Outstanding Contributions to the Advancement of Mental His other honors included the Presidencies of the Society of Biological Psychiatry, the American Association of Group Psychotherapy, the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Honorary Life Presidency of the World Association of Social Psychiatry.
