One of the most effective network design strategies I employ is to begin with a broad, high-level perspective before delving into specific details. This approach allows me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the network's overarching structure and objectives, enabling me to navigate complexities without becoming overwhelmed by minor intricacies. By initially focusing on the big picture, I can ensure that the network design aligns with overarching goals and efficiently addresses key requirements, ultimately leading to a more robust and effective solution.

This includes regularly perusing industry publications to stay informed on emerging technologies and methodologies. Additionally, I actively engage in professional development by attending conferences, webinars, and workshops, where I have the opportunity to learn from experts and network with peers. Furthermore, I participate in online forums and discussion groups, exchanging insights and best practices with fellow professionals in the field. What does it take to be an expert in designing network solutions, and how do you actually do it? The very design-like answer to this question is (of course) 'it depends!', but that wouldn't really make an interesting session, would it? This is where it gets interesting, because network design isnโ€™t simply about designing networks based on best practices. To truly master the art, not only do you need to have a deep understanding of technologies, but you also need to take various requirements and constraints into account when designing the solution. In this session, you will get a basic idea of what is required to be an expert in this field โ€“ and also how the CCDE certification could be relevant.Mark Holm, Cisco Systems, Inc.https://lnkd.in/e2eQ8Xfu#Cisco #CiscoU #Design #network #CCDE Cisco Mark Holm

๐ŸŒŸ 5 universal methods to expand the scope of possibilities ๐ŸŒŸ Do you remember when, in school, we were asked to write a letter to our future selves? The scenarios we sketched on paper as children were often enhanced variations of the lives already surrounding us, either extracted from real life and people or inspired by pop culture and media. It was a way of using our existing knowledge to imagine the unknown. The same principle applies to adults. We analyze the world and make assumptions and decisions based on our understanding of it. We only think thoughts that are variations of everything we already know. We simply can't imagine things that are outside our scope, things weโ€™ve never learned or heard about. To do so, one needs to expand the scope of possibilities by adding new information to the thinking space and process. As a designer, it is part of my professional role to expand the scope almost daily. I do this using methods that increase my knowledge of the world. What's so awesome about these methods is that they are universal and can be used no matter what we do, where we live, or what we already know. So, with no further ado, here are 5 universal methods I useto expand the scope of possibilities (be sure to write them down): โœ… Be Open-Minded: Avoid the "know-it-all" attitude. โœ… Be Intentional: Seek the knowledge necessary to broaden your thinking. โœ… Be Curious: Ask, "Why, why, why...?" โœ… Be Creative: Experimentation and iteration bring clarity. โœ… Be Patient: Trust the process. ๐ŸŒŸ Bonus (Work Edition): Speak with someone who is where you want to be while employing the aforementioned 5 methods. ๐ŸŒŸ Bonus (Life Edition): Engage with someone different from yourself while employing the aforementioned 5 methods. Can you come up with more universal methods? Together, we expand our horizons! ๐Ÿš€

I get distracted easily. I often fall into what I call an "info consumption loop". I'm afraid of missing out (on the latest news, the latest framework, reviews on the latest technology,...) Yet, with all this information I still feel a lack of creative energy. Is a dichotomy: we consume more but create less. I've been using these two questions to regain focus: โ†’ Is this content helping me to create something new?โ†’ Is this teaching me something that will enhance my craft? Try it yourself! ๐Ÿ’ก=====๐Ÿ“ง Ps: If you liked this idea, share it with others and join my newsletter (takes less than a minute!) where I share weekly knowledge bites on design, tech innovation, and creativity: https://lnkd.in/dRwJxhEK.

You may know the problem. That doesnโ€™t mean you already know the solution.Butโ€ฆ You think you know what needs to be done.I mean, youโ€™ve been in this business for years. You communicate with your clients regularly. You know where they need help. You can speak their language.Soโ€ฆ You build something. To solve a problem. And you show it to others. People who also work in your line of business. And they like it. Some love it.Everyone agrees this will help. What do you do now?Launch? Or test? (This is a trick question because the only answer is that you test.)Soโ€ฆ You test. And your thing flops. Or very nearly.Instead of clarifying, it magnifies their confusion. Instead of simplifying, it highlights complexities. But, thatโ€™s OK.Because thereโ€™s a difference between testing something and launching a full thing.Because now you can go back to the drawing board. The moral of this story: Donโ€™t assume your expertise and years of experience automatically hold the answer. Or you may find yourself in a very humbling place.#ContentDesign #WebDesign
